Frequently Asked Questions
About Personal Training & Group Training

What's your fitness philosophy?

We aim to improve overall quality of life (quality is what the Q represents in our name). It’s important to us as coaches to not only improve people’s aesthetic appearance, but also to identify accurately how to train each client within his/her abilities to improve physical quality. Meaning that many approaches can be taken in regards to exercise routines depending on who you are. Routines are typically very diverse to keep you engaged and also to help avoid too much adaptation, which can slow progress.

Will my trainer put me on a diet? Stop my smoking/make me stop drinking?

Most personal trainers are fully aware that in order to change an unhealthy lifestyle you first have to work within it. As fitness and lifestyle coaches we will absolutely give you healthy nutrition and lifestyle advice, however, we are only with you a few hours a week so you will be held accountable by the strategies we will implement. Just remember, the more fit you become, the easier it will become to treat your body better.

Can I set the time I work out?

We believe that since you are the client you should be able to train when you want, and we will do our best to accommodate that. However, do remember that trainers will have existing clients so your first choice for a time may not be available. We ask that our clients entertain the idea of being a little flexible and we will do the same. We do try to utilize a set schedule however, so if you’re changing your training time make sure you always give at least 12 hours notice.

What happens during a personal training sessions?

A personal training session will normally last for 45 minutes. This will follow along the lines of a brief warm-up dynamic stretch, followed by your main training program. This is where you will focus on your goals using cardiovascular, strength, or flexibility exercises. All parts of which is coached and educational. Most programs will likely vary from one session to the next according to the clients’ needs and progress.

How many times per week should you meet with a personal trainer?

The number of sessions with a personal trainer in Denver really depends on a number of factors including your budget, availability, and need for accountability. On average, most clients meet with their fitness instructors one to three sessions per week (an average of twice). While personal training programs are an investment, the fitness experience shouldn’t create more stress. Determine the appropriate budget to create the accountability you desire, and the freedom to choose a personal trainer with the exercise and diet approach, as well as the expertise you need.

How do you show clients progress/ results?

With each of our clients, we perform regular check-ins. Composition tests find the inches lost or gained throughout the body of the course of each month. Physical fit testing allows us an opportunity to observe clients perform a series of exercises, which allows us to scale strength gains and movement proficiencies/ deficiencies.

What should I eat before a workout?

Ideally, you should have some form of fuel in your system before you work out. Eating an easily digestible carbohydrate an hour or so before you hit the gym, ensures that you’ll have enough energy in the tank to get through your program. Try fruit and yogurt, or toast and peanut butter; just be sure it’s not too much or you’ll feel sluggish and heavy.

If however, you’re exercising first thing in the morning, eating before your workout may not be a viable option. Many people find that they can tolerate cardio on an empty stomach, but need fuel to get through a strength training session. We will assist you with the types of food and the timing of your pre-workout meal to discover what works best for you.

Do I need to take dietary supplements?

The majority of clients will not require dietary supplements unless they present a documented vitamin deficiency, or they are not consuming a balanced diet. Using supplements as an alternative to a sound diet can lead to deficits of other nutrients. It is healthier and easier for the body to absorb and utilize vitamins and minerals from whole food sources as opposed to obtaining them from a pill.

What should I eat after a workout?

Eating after a workout is important. You need to replenish your glycogen stores and “feed” the muscles when you train. We suggest that you eat a small snack consisting of protein and easily digested carbohydrates within about an hour of training, and then your next meal a few hours later. Common post-workout nutrition “mistakes” include: 1) eating too much (if you burn 300 calories during your workout, you don’t want to be consuming a 500 calorie protein shake), and 2) choosing less than healthy options (perhaps as a reward for working out…).

How quickly will I see the results of my training?

Expect to FEEL the results of your training sooner than you SEE them. People who start a new exercise program and are consistent in getting their workouts done typically report improvements in sleep, mood, and energy levels within two or three weeks. Changes in body composition often take longer to notice, but the more consistent you are with your workouts and the closer you adhere to your nutrition plan, the sooner the results will become noticeable.
